Oatmeal Papaya Smoothie

What To Do

Add honey, Ceres Papaya Juice and dry ingredients and blend. For a thicker consistency, peel and scoop pips out of a fresh papaya and chill in the freezer. Before it freezes, cut into chunks and blend through. Serves 2.

  • 1/2 cup Ceres Papaya Juice
  • 1/2 natural low-fat frozen yoghurt
  • 1 large orange
  • 1/4 cup fine oatmeal
  • 1 to 2 tsp wheat bran
  • Orange peal to garnish

Tips For The Best Smoothies

Go the natural route for a garnish with a difference, don’t waste the peel or skin of the fruit you use. Cut the peal into strips and thread onto small skewers or swizzle sticks. One can use small cookie cutters to press out interesting shapes. Pare the fruit carefully and twist peel around spoon handle. Freeze to form a spiral. This can be done while chilling glasses in the freezer for an extra frosted effect.

Remember fruit freezes well, especially banana. So when you find your bananas are over ripe, don’t throw them out. Cut into chunks and freeze in an airtight container. Berries are also freezer friendly. Frozen fruit gives your smoothie or shake that added frozen drink quality.

Edible Flowers

Flowers such as Pansies, Nasturtiums and Primroses can be used to accompany your favorite drink. They make pretty garnishes. One can either freeze them into ice cubes or place them on top of the drink with other cubes of fruit. Just make sure you have correctly identified the plant and that the flowers have not been sprayed or treated with any toxic chemicals or insect repelants.
